Check the Breed
Women don’t always pick out dogs based on their personalities, so you can’t coordinate having a lab with a specific set of traits. It doesn’t take a genius to see that a woman with a teacup Chihuahua in her purse is going to be a much different woman than one who goes hiking with her lab or jogging with her whippet. Before you make assumptions about a dog person, make sure you’re talking about the right kind of dog.
Your dog loving woman is also going to love crowds and activities. Take her to a street fair or an outdoor music festival. Dating her is going to be easier in the spring and summer, when the weather is nice enough to give people a chance to enjoy being outside. She’s going to want big events with lots of things to do. The upside is that a lot of these events are free to attend, making her a cheap date.
Get Used to Making Exceptions for Dogs
The biggest thing about a dog lover that non-dog lovers don’t get is that they will make crazy exceptions for their pets. You might be able to understand how a person can feel obligated to pay thousands of dollars for a surgery to save their dog’s life, but can you understand letting a dog sleep in your bed? Not just on it, but under the covers with you when it’s cold outside? If you can’t, get ready to just let things pass. This isn’t going to change, so you might as well accept it.
Don’t ever make it you or the dog, because to a woman who’s really bonkers for her pets, you’ll never compete.
Get Used to a Structured Life
Dogs aren’t like other pets. They like to have a set routine of walks and feedings. They might be excitable and rambunctious, but a well trained dog operates on routine. Expect a dog loving woman to be punctual, and very ready to adopt a set pattern. If you can get her into a rhythm that works for you, you can enjoy it for months to come. Appeal to her by making a regular date night and sticking to it.
Dogs are a great talking point. They’re funny, they matter to people, and you can use them to get to know someone very fast. When you’re meeting a dog person online or in person, be sure to be very tolerant of pets (even if you’re not a dog person yourself). She’s always going to pick the dog over you, but that’s a good thing for a casual fling.
